CRISPR Foods

CRISPR or CRISPR-Cas9 (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats)is an adapted gene editing or genome editing system from a studied bacteria will do some editing on our foods for the next five years as the report said and expected to be available in grocery stores soon.

The foods that will be likely to be edited is the veggies and fruits and some reports said even meat.

"Want a mushroom that doesn't brown? A corn crop that yields more food per acre? Both already exist, though they haven't yet made it to consumers' plates. What about a strawberry with a longer shelf life or tomatoes that do a better job of staying on the vine?"(Business Insider)

The editing will improve our food production and report said will solve food starvation due to our growing population that demand large food supply

"....they've edited tomato plants to ensure a higher crop yield, mushrooms to prevent browning, and soybeans to prevent the production of trans fats. Those three examples alone illustrate CRISPR's potential to give us ore food that lasts longer and is healthier than what we currently have..... we could see those super-charged foods and others make their way into our dinner plates very soon." (Futurism)

CRISPR editing as the report said is much better than GMOs or Genetically Modified Organism/Crops and traditional breeding methods.

"Gene-edited crops are very different from the controversial genetically modified organisms (GMOs).." (Futurism)

"CRISPR's appeal in food is straightforward: it 's cheaper and easier than traditional breeding methods, including these that are used to make genetically modified crops )also known as GMOs) currently. Its also much more precise.Where traditional breeding methods hack away at a crop's genome with a dull blade, tools like CRISPR slice and reshape with scalpel -like precision." (Business Insider)

" Sophisticated all-inclusive gene-editing packages such as CRISPR and other closely related techniques are as fast as they are cheap.Scientists are already using CRISPR to make crops, cows, and pigs that are healthier, better equipped to handle heat and drought, and more resistant to pests and disease.Where traditional breeding methods- including GMOs - hack away at a crop's genome with a dull blade, tools like CRISPR slice and reshape with scalpel-like precision. It is a technology that many experts say is capable of saving the planet from starvation, but only if the public will permit it."
