GM Mosquito

Mosquito - Disease brought by mosquitoes is the reason why scientists plan to manipulate the genes of mosquito in order to stop them from spreading diseases like dengue,malaria,and Zika virus.

The result of scientist manipulation is the GM mosquito or the Genetically Modified mosquito.These mosquitoes will be brought to the wild to see if manipulating their genes could reduce and stop them from spreading diseases to humans.



Yes,the purpose of genetically modified mosquitoes or genetically engineered mosquitoes is to kill them and reduce their population; to control them,to control them from spreading diseases brought by them like Zika,malaria,dengue,and other disease brought by them.

However,some oppose to genetically engineered pests because of unknown consequence of modifying or altering the DNA of the pests like mosquitoes.But scientists never listens to opposition.

Male mosquitoes are the only ones being experimented or genetically altered not the female mosquitoes. These male mosquitoes will carry a genes that will kill their offspring and will not able to grow into adult.

"The genetic modification only targets male mosquitoes [male do not bite].Since only female mosquitoes bite,the idea is that these genetically modified male mosquitoes will help reduce the population of possibly disease-carrying mosquitoes." (Dr. Axe)

"Scientists create genetically modified mosquitoes by inserting what is called a self-limiting gene into their DNA sequence.This gene doesn't allow the mosquitoes to survive into adulthood; it also causes more than 95 percent their offspring to die before becoming vectors of disease.The genetically modified mosquitoes also contain heritable,fluorescent proteins that provide a marker for scientists to tell them apart from native mosquitoes." "...genetically engineered mosquitoes,which were bred in the lab to transmit a gene during the reproductive process that kills their offspring have already been used on an experimental basis in three countries - the Cayman Island,Malaysia and Brazil - to counteract the quickly spreading mosquito borne viral infection dengue fever." Not only the three countries mention above participate on GM mosquitoes experimentation,now Africa jump into the boat.

Africa subscribes to it to counteract the spread of malaria on its people,recently.

Take Note :

Both mosquitoes or both Male and Female mosquitoes sip blood but Male do not bite only Female bite.

There is a difference between "Sip" and "Bite".

How can a Male mosquito live if he do not "sip" blood. Is not it,mosquitoes live in blood.

GM mosquitoes are mosquitoes whose make-up is altered or manipulated; these GM mosquitoes are particularly Male.
