Sweden – According to the news, Sweden recently
have the lowest COVID-19 cases or the country have the lowest rate of cases of
the disease since the pandemic of the disease begun. Their approach is not to
impose strict lockdown or a lockdown, what government of Sweden do is to remind
or teach its people to be personally responsible of the disease. That approach
Sweden boastly says to be effective because of its lower cases of COVID-19.
“Infections in Sweden appear low despite the country
not entering a severe lockdown…… Sweden has recorded the lowest rate
of positive coronavirus tests
since the pandemic began, despite the
country having never entered a full-scale lockdown.” (Yahoo)
“Sweden carried out a
record number of new coronavirus tests last week with only 1.2% coming back positive,
the health agency said on Tuesday, the lowest rate since the pandemic began at
a time when countries across Europe are seeing surges in infections. Sweden
avoided a lockdown and instead emphasized personal responsibility, social
distancing and good hygiene in a bid to slow rather than eradicate a disease
deemed here to stay.” (Reuters)
“Sweden emphasized personal responsibility, social
distancing and good hygiene as it tried to slow rather than eliminate the
virus, and World Health Organization officials said it was a sustainable
approach.” (Yahoo)
The news also said that is why Sweden
have lower cases because their population have higher level of immunity.
““Our strategy has been consistent
and sustainable. We probably have a lower risk of spread here compared to other
countries,” said Jonas Ludvigsson, professor of epidemiology at Karolinska
Institutet, adding that Sweden likely had a higher level of immunity in the
population than most countries.” (Reuters)
But their approach was not free from
criticism home and abroad.
“The
approach has its critics. An editorial in the Dagens Nyheter newspaper said the
growing numbers lauding the Swedish strategy had forgotten the many dead. “It
seems some numbers need to be repeated. Sweden has 5,837 dead in COVID-19. A
proportion five times higher than Denmark.””(Reuters)
“However, the approach has been criticized, with an
editorial in the Dagens Nyheter newspaper saying the people
praising Sweden’s strategy had forgotten those who died, adding that the death
toll was five times higher than Denmark’s.” (Yahoo)
The main point : If Sweden have higher level of immunity in their
population that could be the reason why they have low cases of COVID-19 without
imposing a strict lockdown.
