Disease is typical in our population as well as
deaths cause by it but cure or medicine is not actually instant when a disease
strike and attack especially if the disease is new or novel among health
experts. That is the case of COVID-19 disease because it is new. Health experts
find it hard to develop a cure or a medicine for it and as well a vaccine. But
recently, COVID-19 vaccines were developed and made from different vaccine
developers and manufacturers like AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Pfizer but the vaccines
effectiveness is not 100 % and have some reported side effects.
Vaccine is a something that is develop to make the
body have immunity to a particular infectious disease. According to some
information, it teaches and or help the body fight pathogenic organism like
virus and bacteria which is the main purpose of it. But how vaccine is develop
and made and what is its components?
According to World Health Organization or WHO, vaccine
is compose of an antigen, adjuvant, diluent, preservatives, residuals, stabilizers,
and surfactants.
Antigen
This vaccine component, according to WHO is the key
ingredient. Antigen is either a tiny part of a pathogenic thing like virus or bacteria
or a whole of the pathogen but only inactive, weakened or non-dangerous
version. This component triggers an immune response.
Adjuvant
This vaccine component is a substance that improve
or enhance the response of immune system to help fight an invading pathogen. An
example of adjuvant is aluminium.
Diluent
This vaccine component is a substance or liquid that
is added to dilute the concentration of the vaccine. Example of diluent is
sterile water.
Preservatives
This vaccine component is a substance or something
added to vaccine to prevent from contamination and from being spoiled or decompose.
However, not all vaccines have preservatives.
Residuals
This vaccine component are substances like
antibiotics, egg proteins and yeast that are use in manifesting a vaccine but
not active part of a complete vaccines they are in a tiny residual in the
vaccine.
Stabilizers
This vaccine component makes the vaccine stable and
prevent the vaccine content from unwanted changing of state or condition. Examples
of stabilizers are gelatin, sugar, sorbitol, and glycerol.
Surfactants
This vaccine components hold and blend together all
the vaccine ingredients and prevent settling and clumping.
