Eruption Triggers Tsunami

Indonesia - Last December 22,2018,Saturday night,a tsunami attack Indonesia leaving 281 dead and 1,000 injured as the report says as well as homes and buildings were heavily damaged.

The tsunami was triggered by a volcanic eruption that brought underwater landslide which cause a tsunami wave on the water. The Anak Krakatau o Krakatau volcano eruption or erupts and cause a tsunami.

"There was no warning of the giant waves which struck at night, destroying hundreds of buildings, sweeping away cars and uprooting trees. It is thought undersea landslides from the Anak Krakatau volcano caused them." (BBC)

"Indonesia disaster management agency said that the tsunami may have been caused by an undersea landslide after the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano, according to the AP.The volcano erupted around 24 minutes prior to the tsunami. A tsunami that is triggered by a volcano is different from a tsunami that is triggered by an earthquake." (AccuWeather )

" " Actually, the tsunami was not really big, only one meter; Gegar Prasetya,co founder of the Tsunami Research Center Indonesia, said via the AP." The problem is people always tend to built everything close to the shoreline."The tsunami occurred during the full moon when tide levels were already higher than normal." (AccuWeather)

"Krakatoa or Krakatau (Indonesian,Krakatau) is a volcanic island situated in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesia province of Lampung. The name is also used for the surrounding island group comprising the remnants of a much larger island of three volcanic peaks which were obliterated in a cataclysmic 1883 eruption. In 1927, a new island,Anak Krakatau,or "Child of Krakatoa",emerged from the caldera formed in 1883 and is the current location of eruptive activity."
