Somalia – a country within the African continent has
elected a new president that will serve for four years. The election was held
at an airport hangar in Mogadishu last May 15,2022 Sunday.
A former president won the election while an incumbent
or former was not elected again as president.
The Somalia’s newly elected president Hassan Sheikh
Mohamud was a former president of Somalia that serves from 2012 to 2017 and now
rise into his former role as president again of Somalia. He defeated the
incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed or known as Farmaajo that serves
the country since 2017 which also run for presidency. He is known as a civic
leader and an education promoter and belongs to Hawiye clan. He is the leader
of the Union for Peace and Development party.
As the new leader he will face his predecessors
‘current governmental concerns.
“He now inherits several challenges from his
predecessor, including the increasing number of attacks from the
al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab group and a devastating drought that threatens to
drive millions into famine…….. Mohamud will also need to repair the damage
caused by months of political chaos and infighting, both at the executive level
and between the central government and state authorities.”(Aljazeera)
